A Fitchburg State University student has been suspended from school and is facing charges for secretly video recording his roommate in the nude.
James Lucas, 23, of 288 Littleton Road, Chelmsford, was arraigned Thursday in Fitchburg District Court on charges of photographing an unsuspecting nude person and unlawful wiretapping. He was released by Judge Andrew Mandell on personal recognizance and ordered to appear for a pretrial hearing June 7.

Well, it’s not exactly like the Tyler Clementi/Dharun Ravi case, but it’s still a clear privacy issue. Barnes also mentions a third case that I had not been aware of:
Also, a Boston College football player Jayrd Rudolph, 19, was arraigned in March for illegally audiotaping a teammate and a female graduate student having sex. Mr. Rudolph was a defensive tackle for the Boston College football team.
Why aren’t young people who are smart enough to get into college smart enough to learn the lines they must not cross? Or is it the case that they do know the line but their impulsivity trumps decency and respect for privacy? In any event, we’ve still got our work cut out for us.
