People could get off criminal charges because the phone system used at the Whangarei police station may have breached their Bill of Rights, a court has heard.
Stephen Pugh, 51, is arguing that drink-driving charges against him should be dropped because the station’s phone system did not allow him to consult his lawyer properly. The Bill of Rights gives those arrested the right to consult a lawyer without delay and in privacy.
