GA: Former Murray 911 dispatcher pleads guilty

Posted on October 14, 2010 by pogowasright.org

Mark Millican reports:

A Murray County 911 dispatcher who was fired for illegally tracing a vehicle license plate number while on duty pleaded guilty to felony computer invasion of privacy in Superior Court on Wednesday.

Billie Jane Allen, 33, of 356 W. Walnut St., was arrested on June 15, 2009, by the Murray County Sheriff’s Office. A dispatcher for four years, she was fired four days later.

…. Also arrested for computer invasion of privacy at the same time was Regina Lynn Blackwell, 36, of 603 Parson Road, Apt. 4, in Spring Place. The arrests came as the result of an investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). Allen said Blackwell had asked her to “run” the vehicle’s number in April 2009 and she “couldn’t remember why” when asked later.

It’s nice to see abuse of databases treated as a felony.   So many other times we’ve seen employees who misused databases get off relatively lightly.  Maybe this news story should be plastered all over the State Department as a reminder to employees who are tempted to snoop on celebrities’ passport files.
