Privacy Agency Says Banks Lack Transparency

Posted on October 20, 2010 by pogowasright.org

From Estonia Public Broadcasting:

The Data Protection Inspectorate believes that banks should put more effort into educating consumers about what they can do to avoid unsolicited advertising.

After investigated client contracts from Danske, SEB and Swedbank, the agency proposed a more transparent explanation of how the clients’ personal information is passed on and used in marketing.

“Bank contracts are often the type of documents that clients do not read carefully,” said agency representative Andres Ojaver.

Stiina Liivrand, a consultant for the Data Protection Inspectorate, told uudised.err.ee that all three banks accepted the suggestions.
