It’s been 18 years since federal law banned “junk faxes,” but that hasn’t stopped companies from continuing to clog fax machines with unsolicited pitches.
And under a proposed settlement, Lakeville’s Olde Stone Land Survey Co. will pay $1.3 million to end a class-action lawsuit alleging it sent tens of thousands of faxes promoting its title services, primarily to Bay State lawyers.
The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Boston employment attorney Evan Fray-Witzer, a long-suffering junk-fax recipient who became further annoyed after learning others on an e-mail list to which he belonged also allegedly had been bombarded by Olde Stone.
