Netflix Faces Privacy Class Action

Posted on February 15, 2011 by pogowasright.org

Missed this one last month. Mike Holter writes:

Netflix has been hit with another class action lawsuit, this time involving subscribers’ privacy. According to the most recent class action lawsuit, Netflix keeps its customers’ personal information and viewing history years after they cancel their membership, in violation of state and federal laws.

The Netflix class action lawsuit alleges the popular movie subscription service maintains a digital record system that details every streaming video or video rental that its subscribers have ordered during the course of their membership. It also allegedly maintains records containing users’ billing and contact information on its server computers for at least two years after a subscriber cancels his or her account with Netflix.
