Montreal officials may have a somewhat greater expectation of privacy in their employer-issued devices than their counterparts elsewhere. The Montreal Gazette reports:
The city of Montreal has advised elected officials their calls and messages on city-issued BlackBerries are confidential.
Only the name and work address of the BlackBerry subscriber and the cost and time period covered by any billing is public, the city clerk’s office said in a memo that was sent to city officials this week after the opposition at city hall raised concerns that their computer emails and correspondence on other electronic devices could be “spied” on by the comptroller-general’s office.
