Valerie Schremp reports:
Four city police officers are suing to try to block the department from obtaining their personal cellphone records in an investigation of the unauthorized circulation of a photo of a man killed March 8 in a shootout.
One unidentified officer has admitted to his bosses that he used his cellphone to take the picture of the bloody body of Carlos Boles, who was shot to death while resisting arrest in a house in the 3100 block of Osage Street. Deputy U.S. Marshal John Perry also was killed.
The investigation involves figuring out which officers forwarded the picture to others. The image was widely spread by email or text messages that reached the Post-Dispatch and TV stations, which chose not to use it.
