In a review of the use of super-injunctions by British judges, led by Lord Neuberger, the Master of the Rolls, it has been said there should be a distinction between Twitter users, bloggers and national newspapers.
The report said that newspapers have far greater reach and influence while the internet has ‘by no means the same degree of intrusion into privacy as the story being emblazoned on the front pages’ because the mainstream media is ‘more trusted’.
However, Lord Chief Justice Lord Judge cautioned that changes could be brought about to protect innocent parties incorrectly named as being involved in a super-injunction – as happened to socialite Jemima Khan earlier this month.
