Ga. drug testing likely to face legal challenges

Posted on March 17, 2012 by pogowasright.org

I’ve previously noted that some states are imposing drug testing requirements as a prerequisite for public assistance (cf here and here,)  Indeed, I considered this disturbing trend one of the top privacy stories of 2011. It continues to be of concern in 2012, although courts have already struck down some states’ laws as unconstitutional.

Now Associated Press reports that Georgia’s law may face a legal challenge if it passes.   Good.  Obviously, I hope it doesn’t even pass, but if it does, it needs to be challenged.

And yes, it’s the Republican party – the party that claims to be for small government – that is behind these intrusions into people’s privacy and more government regulation.  The same party that promotes laws requiring women to undergo medically unnecessary testing before they can have an abortion.

Can they spell “hypocrisy?”
