Interesting news from Illinois, from Associated Press:
The Illinois House wants to bar employers from asking workers and job applicants for access to social media like Facebook.
The legislation passed 78-30 Thursday and now goes to the Senate.

Information on the bill can be found here (full text as engrossed here). As amended, the bill would allow employers to use publicly available information, but not demand or even request it:
It shall be unlawful for any employer to request or require any employee or prospective employee to provide any password or other related account information in order to gain access to the employee’s or prospective employee’s account or profile on a social networking website or to demand access in any manner to an employee’s or prospective employee’s account or profile on a social networking website.
So, privacy advocates: would this be a good model for a federal law?
