Ofcom rejects Assange nightclub privacy breach claim

Posted on September 10, 2012 by pogowasright.org

PA Media Lawyer reports that Ofcom has not upheld a claim by Julian Assange that a television show that aired last year breached his privacy by showing footage of him dancing in a nightclub.

Assange had claimed  that he had only consented to be filmed on the dance floor by the documentarian “on the basis that it would be for the filmmaker’s personal use only”.

Ofcom said the complaint should not be upheld and ruled that Assange “did not have a legitimate expectation of privacy” in regard to the footage included in the show, which was broadcast on 29 November last year.

Read more on Press Gazette.  The Evening Standard provides additional details on his complaint and Channel 4’s response.
