The Senate is scheduled to take up the reauthorization of the FISA Amendments Act of 2008 this morning at 10 am. I’ll be watching for it on C-SPAN.
Here’s a podcast by Julian Sanchez of the Cato Institute yesterday on the topic:
Despite heroic efforts by Senators Wyden and Udall, there has never been a genuine debate and transparency about how this law has impacted us all. Once again, Congress has waited until close to the expiration date and will likely use that as an excuse to just extend the law without really examining it for its implementation and protection of civil liberties.
So will this morning be “business as usual?” I fear so, but I always stand ready to be pleasantly surprised.
Note: Although I’ve covered this topic many times on this blog, here’s a link to some background from Senator Wyden’s office with recent correspondence on the issue.
