Karla Adam of The Washington Post reports that Gary McKinnon’s supporters have not given up on fighting his extradition to the U.S. over hacking charges. Now they are trying to appeal the decision to the new Supreme Court which opens on Oct.1. According to the story, if that strategy failes, they will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.
McKinnon is accused of hacking into government databases following 9/11. He claims that he was just looking for evidence of UFOs, but already confessed to British authorities when he thought that he would be charged and tried in the U.K. The U.S. has insisted on trying him here, which his supporters claim is unnecessary and would be particularly cruel in light of prison conditions here and the fact that McKinnon was subsequently diagnosed with Asperger’s Disorder.
