Google, Inc. must face class action claims it improperly collected WiFi data from networks as its Street View cameras roamed the roadways taking pictures, a federal appeals court held Tuesday.
The data collection from unencrypted WiFi networks does not fall within the wiretap exemption in federal law as a “radio communication” or “electronic communication” that is “readily accessible to the general public,” according to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
