Bulgaria opposition alarms EU institutions over its claim on personal data abuse

Posted on December 7, 2013 by pogowasright.org

Focus reports:

Oppositional Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (CEDB) party has sent a signal to the European institutions and the biggest European parties to inform them about its claim filed to the Bulgarian Personal Data Protection Commission, the press office of the party announced.

The claim comes in connection with the information about illegal use of the personal data of around two million Bulgarian citizens with the purpose to establish a call-centre for mass electioneering among citizens aged over 55 in support of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) during the 2009 general elections campaign.

According to information in the Bulgarian media, the BSP had issued an order to whip up support for the party among adults and elder people through phone calls, including during the elections day itself.

I can’t find a great English translation, but the item was posted on the political party’s web site, here.
