Microsoft has admitted that the hacking group known as the Syrian Electronic Army managed to steal confidential files when it broke into employees’ emails.
The company said earlier this month thatthe group had managed to break into employees’ email accounts through a successful phishing attack. That was part of a wider hack which also saw the SEA take over a couple of Microsoft’s Twitter accounts and official blogs.
Now it seems the group also made off with “documents associated with law enforcement inquiries” – government requests for user data. The theft may be linked to the fact that the SEA often accuses Microsoft of colluding with government spying.
