CIA employees improperly searched computers used by Senate investigators involved in a multi-year probe of the agency’s use of harsh interrogation measures on terrorism suspects, according to the findings of an internal agency inquiry that prompted CIA Director John Brennan to apologize to lawmakers this week.
Ten agency employees, including two lawyers and three computer specialists, surreptitiously searched Senate Intelligence Committee files and reviewed some committee staff members’ e-mail on computers that were supposed to be exclusively for congressional investigators, according to a summary of the CIA inspector general’s report, released Thursday.

Not surprisingly, some are now calling for Brennan to be fired, while others point out that perhaps it would be wise to ask what he knew and when he knew it before making any recommendations or calling for his head.
In any event, if the CIA is spying on members of Congress, what will members of Congress do? Will they continue to support broad surveillance requests and programs or will they take a step to the left?
