… Sioux Falls public school officials approved a measure this summer to prevent student information from being misused by tech companies, months after Google admitted to collecting student data for advertising purposes.

In August, school board members approved a new rule for cloud-based programs used in class. Educators now need a written agreement with a tech company, assuring it will protect any “personally identifying information” and not disclose student information to other companies, according to the policy.
Any downloaded application that might use student data must be approved by district officials before it’s used in class.
