New Jersey lawmakers are advancing legislation that would expand law enforcement’s ability to tap into communications in criminal investigations.
The Assembly Judiciary Committee on Feb. 12 unanimously recommended passage of a bill, A1046, that would amend the New Jersey Wiretapping and Electronic Surveillance Control Act to allow law enforcement to use wiretaps in more cases.
The bill would allow law enforcement to apply to a judge for a wiretap order if they are investigating the crimes of luring or enticing a child, third- or fourth-degree harassment, identity theft or stalking.
