MD: House of Delegates, Senate pass bills to strengthen students’ online privacy

The House of Delegates and state Senate both passed bills to strengthen students’ online privacy by prohibiting universities from intruding on private social media accounts.

The chambers passed slightly different versions of the bill and are voting this week on a uniform final version to send to Gov. Larry Hogan.

The bill would prohibit any university administrators, officials or coaches from requiring students to grant them access to accounts that are not public.
