The city of Jacksonville has argued in court that a federal law protecting drivers’ privacy is unconstitutional, and police should be able to look up driver license information even if it’s not for an investigation.
The city made its argument in a federal lawsuit stemming from the actions of two Jacksonville police officers who looked up highway trooper Donna Jane Watts’ address after her controversial arrest of a Miami police officer following a 120-mph chase.
