Lawyers at Gallo LLP on Wednesday amended an email-scanning lawsuit they filed earlier this year on behalf of four former UC-Berkeley students against Google Inc. to add more than 700 additional plaintiffs from schools across the country.
The flood of new plaintiffs in the suit raises the stakes significantly. Plaintiffs have sued Google under the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, which carries statutory damages of $10,000 for each plaintiff or $100 for each day the act is violated, whichever is higher.
