New Mexico is combining its major databases. From Albuquerque Journal, where you can read more about what’s involved:
Linking databases
The state’s new meta-criminal database, called the Criminal History Clearinghouse, will link six databases already in use.Originally intended for use by police officers in the field along with judges, the clearinghouse will initially provide information only to judges as they determine bail for defendants.
The system will link databases currently maintained by the federal National Crime Information Center and the state’s Administrative Office of District Attorneys; Children, Youth, and Families Department for juvenile records; Department of Corrections; Department of Public Safety, which includes the multidatabase Consolidated Offender Query; and the Administrative Office of the Courts for statewide court case history.
And eventually?
What can possibly go wrong, right?
