A New York judicial panel has ruled that a Paramus man is not entitled to records he believed the NYPD had kept on him during a period of surveillance on New Jersey Muslims.
Samir Hashmi said he was “extremely disappointed” by the ruling, which civil rights advocates said struck a blow against free access to public information. But a New York Police Department spokesman said the ruling protects sensitive information and could endanger the public were it to be released.
