‘VACCINE’ is being used to spy on baseball fans, festivalgoers etc., part 4

The fourth installment of Joe Cadillic’s series on “VACCINE” begins:

‘Visual Analytics for Command, Control and Interoperability Environments” (VACCINE) is a social media spying tool developed by DHS.

The U.S. Coast Guard secretly spied on baseball fans during last years All-Star Week.

“VACCINE’s social media analytics tool was used by U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) during Major League Baseball’s All-Star Week.”

“The USCG used VACCINE’s Social Media Analytics and Reporting Toolkit (SMART) as a way to monitor and analyze the vast amount of social media data in the Cincinnati area in order to maximize security and minimize potential threats to public safety.”

Why did the Coast Guard spy on baseball fans in a park that borders the Ohio river? The answer might surprise you, in 2003 the USCG became part of DHS. Fyi, the old baseball park used to be called Riverfront Stadium not Oceanfront Stadium, so there’s little chance terrorists would be using the Ohio river to plan an attack on baseball fans.
