Recently revived legislation aimed at expanding privacy protections for biometric and geolocation data died in a Senate policy committee Wednesday amid bipartisan concerns that amendments were too much to digest in the last days of session.
AB 83 was a two-year attempt by Assemblyman Mike Gatto, D-Silver Lake, to update California privacy laws so that businesses would have to take “reasonable” security measures to shield iris scans, fingerprints and other modern forms of personally identifying information from breaches.
