Uber exec fired after accessing rape victim passenger’s medical records

A top Uber executive has been fired after obtaining the medical records of a woman who was raped by a driver in India, the latest in a string of scandals at the tech giant.

Eric Alexander, who ran Uber’s business in Asia, showed the files to Uber bosses including its chief executive Travis Kalanick, and held them for over a year before they were destroyed, according to technology news website Recode.

They related to a rape case in 2014 that led to Uber being briefly banned in Delhi and leading it to introduce new safety rules.
