California online privacy legislation threatens tech success

First the Association of National Advertisers weighed in against California Assembly Bill 375. Now Adrian Covert, vice president of public policy at the Bay Area Council, is also weighing in against it:

Assembly Bill 375, introduced with just weeks left in the Legislative year without adequate review or study, is a misguided attempt to ensure internet consumer privacy protection. It was introduced in the wake of federal proposals that could possibly change the way data is used by Internet Service Providers (ISPs).

Sadly, the bill will cause more harm than good, causing consumer confusion, hobbling the ability of companies to innovate, and diminishing the way we use the internet.
