IE: Government quashes claims that they’re in breach of EU privacy laws over Public Services Card

The new public services card has once again come under scrutiny after a legal expert issued a warning that the card could be in breach of EU privacy laws.

In what could be a potentially disastrous situation for the state, the new card which is currently being issued to everyone nationwide, could be in breach of EU privacy laws as the collecting and sharing of data belonging to millions of people could be deemed illegal as it does not comply with current EU protection laws.

Although the Government have moved to quash such concerns by stating there is a legal basis to collect the public’s information, Simon McGarr from Data Compliance Europe has raised concerns  by stating the state could be heavily fined if they are breach of EU law.
