The ex-girlfriend of former deputy Jason Reid is asking the county for $750,000, claiming Reid, as a county employee, violated her constitutional rights and subjected her to unlawful seizure by placing a tracking device on her vehicle.
A letter addressed to Catawba County Manager Mick Berry and the county board of commissioners, on behalf of Erica Sigmon from Wooden Bowers Attorneys at Law of Charlotte, lays out the allegations.
Read more on Hickory Record. The county’s response, not surprisingly, is that if the former deputy acted outside of the scope and authorization of his employment, then they are not liable for that. And that is the same argument we have seen with mixed results in some litigation over health data breaches.
