Joe Harris reports:
Southwestern Bell is the latest in a series of class-action defendants accused of using misrepresentations to get confidential data from a Department of Motor Vehicles database “for commercial purposes.”
The complaint against SW Bell is the third that Kansas City attorney Mitchell Burgess has filed for clients.
The first, against the Source for Public Data, was filed on July 21, 2008; the second, against Chexsystems, was filed on July 29 this year. All three claim that the defendants violated the Federal Driver’s Privacy Protection Act by selling the restricted personal information and by making false representations to get it.
