Amid frequent news from companies reporting breaches of individuals’ personal information, the state Legislature approved and Gov. Jerry Brown signed legislation (AB 375 and SB 1121) to create the California Consumer Privacy Act. CCPA aims to give California consumers greater control over their personal information by imposing certain obligations on entities covered by the law. CCPA takes effect Jan. 1, 2020.
