Sen. Marco Rubio on Wednesday introduced legislation that would deliver a national consumer data-privacy law, saying his bill should prevent outrages along the lines of Facebook’s Cambridge Analytica scandal.
The Florida Republican’s American Data Dissemination Act would require the Federal Trade Commission to submit detailed recommendations for privacy requirements that Congress could impose on tech companies. If Congress then failed to act on the recommendations within two years, Rubio’s bill would enable the FTC to put into effect its own rules.
