Finnish Authorities Suspect Nokia Phones Cause Privacy Breach

In today’s day and age, where data is being touted as the ‘new oil’, regulatory authorities are on high alert to counter any unlawful data extraction practices. Huawei’s ouster from the US, has made world governments highly sensitive in dealing with Chinese companies. An unspecified number of Nokia mobile devices, were found sending information to an unnamed server, registered in China, prompting the Finnish data protection authorities to launch a full scale investigation into the matter.

A local Norwegian broadcast company brought the matter to the fore, as they claimed that they had evidence that some Nokia 7 plus handsets, were transmitting private user data to a China based server. HMD Global, the company which manufactures Nokia smartphones under a licensing deal, have confirmed the data breach, however they state that it has been caused by a software glitch in the smartphones. Meanwhile, Nokia have refused to comment on the matter.
