Tony Blair’s campaigning website ‘shares personal data with one of his charities’

Posted on May 4, 2010 by pogowasright.org

Kaye Wiggins reports:

Tory candidate Greg Hands complains to Charity Commission that tonyblair4labour.org swaps information withTony Blair Africa Governance Initiative

The Charity Commission is looking into a complaint that the political campaigning organisation tonyblair4labour.org has a data protection policy that allows it access to details of supporters of the  Tony Blair Africa Governance Initiative, a charity set up in 2009 to help African leaders tackle poverty.

Read more on ThirdSector.  From reading the rest of the story, it doesn’t sound that the issue is one of deception, as it seems to be revealed on the web sites:

A statement on tonyblair4labour says: “Other organisations, specifically the Tony Blair Africa Governance Initiative, process personal data collected through our website.” It also says the charity is “a data controller of your personal data”.

The data protection policy on the charity’s website also says supporters’ details can be transferred to “other organisations connected with Tony Blair.”
