The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data in Hong Kong entrusted the University of Hong Kong’s Sau Po Centre on Ageing to conduct a survey on privacy protection and found that the elderly in Hong Kong lack awareness of personal privacy protection.
Among the respondents who had been in a situation in which they were asked to give their personal information, nearly 40 percent gave their personal information to the person on the other side of the phone without any knowledge of who they were.
