Judge tosses ‘mother-in-lawsuit’ vs. comedian

Posted on May 6, 2010 by pogowasright.org

John Rogers reports that the in-laws of a comedienne have lost their lawsuit against for her jokes about them, with the judge finding that many of the jokes they objected to are protected speech:

A standup comedian who was sued for making mother-in-law jokes has had the last laugh after a federal judge threw the case out of court.

Sunda Croonquist, whose shtick for years has been to describe her life as a half-black, half-Swedish woman who marries into a Jewish family, was sued two years ago after her mother-in-law, sister-in-law and brother-in-law said her jokes were holding them up to public ridicule.

This case really may become the poster child for bad mother-in-law/daughter-in-law relationships. To add to the family feud, the comedienne’s husband, a lawyer, represented her against his own mother and siblings.
