Despite all the advanced notice, I am still not ready for Christmas and my family’s Christmas traditions. But not being ready seems to be part of our tradition – or at least that’s how I rationalize this.
I wish all my readers a day filled with laughter, a loving family, and good friends. And of course: all the new toys you’ve been hoping for.
For myself, all I want for Christmas is parity in the lives of children. Whether it’s the lives of children that our government may take at any moment via drone strikes far away, the lives of children who go off to school expecting to be safe, the lives of children whose mothers have to worry about stray bullets hitting their children as they sleep in their apartment, the lives of children who are being exposed to painful electric shock to supposedly “treat” their neurological symptoms, or the lives of children who live in poverty and abuse each day in this country.
All children deserve a healthy and happy childhood.
We can do better.
We must do better.
Is that too much to wish for? I don’t think so.
