Access and Privacy 2009

Posted on June 20, 2009July 3, 2025 by Dissent

Location: Toronto, ON

Twenty years after the introduction of Ontario’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the topics of access to government information and protection of privacy sit squarely in the “spotlight” of public attention. Media reports on government accountability and transparency and the protection of personal information – or failures to protect it – appear almost every day. Unprecedented advances in technology, new service delivery models and increasing citizen engagement continue to drive these changes to the access and privacy landscape. To provide our citizens with the highest quality service, we must develop new ways to show this evolution in our programs.

The theme for this year’s Access and Privacy Workshop “From the Shadows to the Spotlight” – reflects this reality. We will examine current and emerging issues in access and privacy while continuing to provide a comprehensive introduction for those new to the field.
