Accused hacker granted bail in Anoushka extortion case

Junaid Khan, who is charged with attempting to extort sitar player Anoushka Shankar, daughter of musician Ravi Shankar, has been granted bail by a Delhi court. According to Yamban, Junaid was required to provide personal and surety bonds of Rs. 50,000 each. he had been arrested on by the Special Cell in Mumbai on September 14 and held without bail until today.

According to the Times of India:

His bail plea stated that Junaid has been in custody for more than a month and the police has not completed its investigation since the chargesheet lacked vital reports from forensic department. Also, the police did not get a reply to the letter rogatory (request letter) sent to the US authorities seeking help from Google Inc in collecting evidence.

Google Legal was contacted to ask whether it had received any request and if it would be giving Khan an opportunity to fight any request, but as of the time of this publication, no response was received.
