The installation of GPS tracking devices in hire cars is an “excessive” invasion of privacy, a civil liberties group says.
Private car hire company DriveMyCar Rentals has announced that it will install the GPS devices in up to 30 per cent of its fleet initially in a bid to ensure that the vehicles are safe.
The devices will give the company the ability to track the location of the vehicle in real time as well as be notified by SMS when travellers breach the terms of their rental agreement, such as driving on dirt roads or out of city areas.
