Invasion of your child’s privacy…or just a sign of the times?
The Indian River County School District voting Tuesday bring the issue of random drug testing at Vero Beach High School to a public hearing in March.
No final decision was made on Tuesday night.

Students are already randomly drug tested at Sebastian River High School.
The drug testing there has been going on for twenty years and they check for cocaine, amphetamine, meth, marijuana, and opiates.
If the tests come back positive, parents are called and the student is required to take a drug rehab course.

How can a child’s right to a free appropriate public education be made contingent on completing a drug rehab course – or for that matter, any treatment for a medical problem?
I just don’t understand how this can pass constitutional muster. Maybe some kind lawyer will educate me.
