Hustler Magazine will pay a $375,000 penalty for publishing nude photographs of Nancy Benoit after she was murdered by her professional wrestler husband, who then committed suicide, a federal judge ruled.
Read more on Courthouse News. Although the jury clearly empathized with Benoit’s family, the judge overturned their generous award and reduced it to what he said was consistent with Georgia’s cap on punitive damages.
What’s interesting about this case is that Hustler tried to argue that her death was a matter of public interest and that a judge agreed with them – but that decision was overturned.
