KY: Lawsuit filed after 12-year-old allegedly strip-searched at Clark Co. school

Posted on January 11, 2019June 25, 2025 by Dissent

WKYT reports:

A federal lawsuit has been filed against Clark County Public Schools alleging a 12-year-old student was strip-searched at Roy D. Campbell Junior High School.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports the girl’s father filed the lawsuit, saying his daughter’s rights were violated.  He is seeking an undisclosed amount of compensation, and punitive damages against the school system.

Read more on WKYT.  There’s a useful statement in the Herald-Leader’s report from the Kentucky ACLU:

Amber Duke, communications director for the Kentucky ACLU, said Friday the constitutionality of searches and seizures in Kentucky public schools “are fact specific to individual incidents.”
