Derek Dellinger and Amanda Shaw report:

A woman has filed a lawsuit against the Greenville Health System, alleging that they violated her privacy after a sexual assault.

The woman, who is known “Jane Doe” in the suit filed Wednesday, details an assault which happened in May 2016 at a downtown Greenville bar.  The next day, she said she went to Greenville Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Room to have a rape kit performed on her.

The woman specifies that she said, in both writing and verbal communication and on multiple occasions, that she wished to remain anonymous. According to the lawsuit, a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) told her that the rape kit would be anonymous.

But the lawsuit alleges that she was identified by her name on medical records, as a sexual assault victim to her insurer and to Greer Police after visiting the hospital.
