Orcon has been ordered to pay a customer $25,000 in damages and train its staff on how to apply the Privacy Act, following a dispute over a $208 bill.
The Human Rights Review Tribunal, sitting in Palmerston North, found that Orcon should not have referred a disputed bill to collection agency Baycorp.
The telco must pay customer Brett Taylor $10,000 for negatively affecting his good credit rating and $15,000 for humiliation, loss of dignity and injury to feelings.
