Playing “Gotcha” With Privacy

Posted on February 26, 2016June 26, 2025 by Dissent

Take a few minutes to read Scott Greenfield’s post on Simple Justice, “Playing “Gotcha” With Privacy.” Useful reminder that while some of us complain about government intrusions on our privacy, we set the stage when we “willingly give it away to anyone with a shiny toy. And we pay for the privilege!”

Of course, one answer is, “True, but it’s our information and if we choose to share it with companies, that’s our decision and shouldn’t give the government the right to conscript the tech company into spying on us for their purposes.”

But it’s a useful reminder that we may contribute to our own problems. Some of us less than others (I’m not into “smart” homes or devices), but we all need to take responsibility for our choices.
