Simon Davies has lodged a complaint against Google with 14 countries’ data protection officials about the “shared endorsements” policy. You can read his complaint here.
Of particular note here, Simon alleges that Google’s policy is deceptive and unfair (see pp. 5-6 of the complaint). Our Federal Trade Commission has the authority to enforce when businesses engage in deceptive or unfair practices, leading to the somewhat obvious question: should the FTC be doing something about this, too?
