Student IDs That Track the Students

Posted on October 7, 2012July 2, 2025 by Dissent

Maurice Chammah and Nick Swartsell report on using RFID tags on students in Texas. It’s a topic I’ve covered on this blog before, and the NY Times story talks about how educators and students are excited by the plan.

But then I noticed that this story and the reporters were from the Texas Tribune, even though it appeared in the NYT.  I wonder if NYT reporters had covered it, would it have had the same rosy glow?
